So finally today I picked her up from a full geo setup. The thing was miles out - it’s now as per the book. I must say the drive home was utterly sublime and I’m smitten all over again.
 

I’m glad to only have one lotus currently means I have to drive it.

Air con regas this morning. I’m not sure if it has enough gas filled - we did 1kg since I’m sure that was what’s in the manual - it blows cold - but not sure if it’s cold enough.

Apparently so @Giniw - the different measurements within the book are for different wheel and tyre sizes. This chap really seems to know his stuff since it’s his passion. He actually said he didn’t need the set dimensions in the book since it’s defined by a few things geometrically on the chassis, hub and balljoints in relation to each other - but he did confirm the numbers in the printout I gave him to be correct.

As far as I remember the S4s measurements are quoted explicitly in the workshop manual? (and for the S4 and I think the Sport 300 too)

Mmm honestly that seems suspicious to me, at least to set it up precisely. But I am far from a specialist in that subject, it's just that I did a few geometries myself already (with a 80's tool) and it needs to be quite precise.
On the other hand recently I had a look at the numbers given in the workshop manual of a mid 90's Nissan Micra and the tolerance is almost shocking. I think it's about a degree or even more (not sure, I am talking from memory but it's just another world from the Lotus cars from the same era and even Jaguars from the 50's-60's)

Anyway, as I said I am really not a specialist in that subject (I just do what the manual says) so I would say as long as what your mechanics did matches the workshop manual and you are happy with it, there is no issue at all obviously. And you are lucky to have such a specialist in your neighbourhood!

There really are days when I simply hate esprits.

The washers have packed up. Covid 2nd jab this morning - so I’m having a lazy day. Thought I’d have a quick look at them. The pipes are full of a jelly like shite substance. Blow through the one way valve with the air line - cleared that. Then there’s just the jets to clear. The old pin trick simply wasn’t cutting it.
 

Don’t be tempted to simply hook up the air line to the hose under the bonnet - as that will invariably blow off the Tee piece that’s been hidden somewhere under the dash and helpfully cabletied deeper than an elephants cervix.

Jets now cleared - some new hose pulled through - and washers work again.

Now all I need is some mounting hardware for the Led units I’ve got for the headlights.

My washers work just fine. But I discovered yesterday that my heater is stuck on hot. Ideal in this mini heatwave 🥵

At least I can stick my head out for a cool shower…

I’ve had some boxes in the garage for a while with some led headlights in.

I got round to ordering the mounting frames for them a couple of weeks ago - and they’ve arrived Friday.

so - operation rip pods apart - plenty of angle grinder action. The back plates modified massively - mounting nuts welded into place - all cleaned of rust, primed and satin blacked.

all now back together

Low beams will be modified tomorrow so they are dual headlight.

£78.22 for the headlights

£87.96 for the carriers frames

£6.10 for some foam.

paint was on the shelf - and about a dozen or so rivets 

Now some elbow grease, effort and fabrication was required - but that’s a whole lot cheaper than the off the shelf job.

I've an insight shared recently by an old mate concerning LED lamps, that the lamps run so cool as to be problematic in certain instances of inclement weather. Word has it that ice or frost may accumulate on such lamps, obviously resulting in diminished output. The supplier at link attached offer some lamps with heating element.

Poor mini trying to be a lotus with its fibreglass front, I saw one tear it’s wheels off on Wiscombe last year looking very similar to that one.

How did you get on results wise or did you just go for a bit of fun?

All non competitive and not timed. 3 runs up the hill - was great fun.

now at swimming with Danny and there’s a strange bit of long double straight fencing alongside the pitches at the sport center I’ve never understood what they were about. Just watched the final of the whippet racing 🤪. 160yard drag race between best Bitch and Dog of the day.
