I had one from SJ installed a couple of months ago. Seems OK to me. Old one was pretty knackered - but I suppose it was 40 years old! (Possibly) -

I wouldn't worry about bringing too much attention in remote areas. People in the UK are much more likely to ask you about the car than do anything else. Have a look at this thread:

I have a CTEK MXS3.8. The manual says connect it to the battery. I bought it during lockdown and used it then with no problems with it connected to the battery. I no longer use it because the best way to condition a battery is to drive the car. 118,000 miles and counting (on the Esprit - 130,000 on the Elise - not all mine I hasten to add)

What made me happy today? A blast along the A4 and lunch in a Fullers pub in Marlborough with a great mate!

Not sure if this will help, but I had a problem with overfuelling, I think it was. I had several lambda sensors changed by the local garage which did not fix the issue. I then took it to my Lotus specialist who said "oh yeah, that is a broken wire. Just had another one of those in". Replaced the broken bit and it was all sorted. I might suggest getting the wiring checked if you can. Mine is an '03 K series Elise. 130K miles now.
