Car Transporter Company Recommendations?

Recommended Posts

  • Gold FFM

My move date for moving up to Scotland is fast approaching and I'm wondering how to get my Esprit up there. As much as I'd love to drive it the 550 miles, it'll cost more in fuel, getting it ready and the return fare than some of the quotes I've received, between £450 - £500. Considering the distance these are reasonable quotes.

Does anyone recommend any car transporter companies or individuals to use or to avoid? Any tips for the transporting an Esprit that distance?

When I bought my evora 2 months ago, it was shipped from leven lotus in Edinburgh to weymouth (South Coast)

Leven used a company called aic transport, the cost was £450.00. This was on an open transporter..

Everything was trouble free & the transporter driver was a pleasure to deal with

When I imported both of my Esprits from the States I used Robins Recovery. He is used to dealing with Lotii and is very particular about looking after your car. Trustworthy and very helpful.

However he is based in Dorset so don't know if he would go that far North. He can be contacted on 07789 660190. or you can email him on robinsrecovery@gmail.com

He charged me £440.00 for my last Esprit last year in an open transporter, from Felixstowe to Blackpool, Lancs.

Thanks for info guys, I'll be making some calls.

@Bravo73 That's what I used to get an idea of the costs. Good to hear that you didn't have a problem with them.

I think I remember a thread that said not to transport the car backwards, is that right?

The Esprit is light and small enough so the orientation wont matter for weight distribution. Especially not on a professional transporter. But you do want to make sure the roof and frunk are closed and locked properly.

I can understand you don't want the hassle of driving it North yourself. But it's not that far and could be a nice roadtrip. Time spent in an Esprit is never wasted (especially on the road). Even if it costs some time/effort/money to prepare the car, that's likely to be something you have to do sooner or later anyway, so would only be a benefit. Just my 2 cents, I always try to drive instead of trailer.

I do remember @Barrykearley had some good dealings with a certain transporter company, might be worth contacting them. If they get enough requests, maybe they'll consider a forum discount. 😉

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

I've just used this guy: Andy - 07534 223730 - nice guy, careful loading car on and off, he transported my Elise project over to North Yorkshire and back, reasonable price I thought (£240) he is based in Preston, not sure where you are moving from?

Moving from Swindon, Wiltshire to 30 miles north of Inverness, about 550 miles in total. Quite the trek towing a car at 60mph!

Try Steve Barnes at The Classic Transporter - 07340404661. He's a member of one of our local Lotus clubs and also owns a classic Lotus himself. Always takes the utmost care and will work round any particular specifics for your own car - certainly worth a conversation if you're considering a valuable shipment.
