Viewing my first Evora - buyers advice

The thing I remember about my first drive, is the off-set pedals. It took me quite a while before I was confident enough to stretch out the left leg and trust the right one to find the brake.

The pedal offset is only slight and I didn't notice until somebody pointed it out to me. A few years ago I had a drive in a Lamborghini Gallardo and those pedals were definitely offset.

One thing I would mention to a new Evora driver is don't try to rush gear changes.

All depends upon what you are used to/coming from, I guess, as that is certainly my abiding memory of the 9 hour first drive from Aberdeen to Berkshire. That and being amazed that my 'phone paired immediately and played all the way home!

Well I finally have an Evora in the garage. After months of looking I was offered this stunning car from a forum member who is moving into an Emira. She’s a 2011 Evora S with 35k miles. The car is finished in Ardent red and has the sport racer black pack and recaro seats. I wanted a brightly coloured Evora and I think red looks fantastic, very happy.

As for first impressions, well the pedals took a few miles to get used to with the offset but after 350miles driving I got used to them pretty quickly. I am struggling with 1st gear, seems to be stiff getting into gear and a couple of times I did struggle at traffic lights etc. The overall sensation from a passenger ride with the old owner and having had a brief blast is it’s bloody quick. God knows why anyone needs 430 :). It’s also super compliant on bumpier roads and the handling seems fantastic but I haven’t had much opportunity to really drive it properly as I just wanted to get it home.

The one thing that has surprised me so far more than anything is how good it is as a car. The headlights were good, the seats are super comfortable, with Apple car play I had great sat nav/spotify. I was expecting it to be compromised for normal driving and a bit of a nightmare on a longer journey but it was a great companion on the long journey home.

I’ll post some proper pictures and start a bit more once I’ve had chance to give it a detail.

Yeah, didn’t bottom out on any speed bumps or the garage hump. It’s practically an suv 😂.

Looks superb, a nice buy. 
Just on the gear engagement. I have said this so many times regulars on here may be getting bored, but adjust the cables at the gearbox end. There is a detent in the selector mechanism that has to be just right for the gears to select smoothly. The cables stretch over time and that detent becomes more difficult to slot in. Even Lotus dealers seem to forget to check that adjustment at service.

When I first got mine I had the same issue with 1st gear, I changed the gearbox oil and no problems since.

Yes, no way is it is an SUV. Gran Tourer is much more applicable 😉

Congrats, not sure you ever need more car than an Evora S. Enough power without being too much. I'll also agree 1st when cold can be a little tough but mine has never been an issue when warm so if yours isn't improving when warm definitely not quite right. 

As for speed bumps, I've never had an issue with them, it's hilarious how good it is over them. 

30k and counting in mine, I'll happily vouch for it being a very usable car. 

The problem is, you're now broken for life as every other car short of maybe a GT3 or a McLaren etc feels a bit disconnected and wooly.
