Dieter often has quite insightful commentary but I'm surprised he has come out with that tosh. Lewis had done nothing but be gentlemanly and Mercedes have every right to appeal the **** show that was the end of the final 'race'

I am certainly not embarressed, only surprised about the morbid doggedness among approx. 5 same posters that have a day's job to post here day after day and post after post.

It is my only intention to show the other side of the story, which certainly is there and to show my affection to my Dutch fellow Max Verstappen.......

I was just about to post that BBC link as my last word on the matter. By launching an official investigation, its clear the FIA recognise something went seriously wrong in Abu Dhabi. I think I'll now sign off this particular dialogue.

As for that Dieter Rencken statement, what complete and utter b******t. Just about the only good thing that came out of Sunday's race was how magnanimous Lewis was in defeat, an utter gentleman, which I believe was entirely genuine. Certainly Max recognised and appreciated the gesture. And why would Toto and Mercedes senior management comment given they are planning to appeal the rejection of their protest? As the police say, we can't comment on the ongoing investigation, which the FIA are now getting on with. Keeping their countenance is exactly the right thing to do, not go bleating to the press.

I guess I am one of the 5 you a referring to Ruud. I've always tried to avoid getting personal and no its not my day job. But my posts and opinions, as well as others, have I believe been borne out in the FIAs statement this afternoon. Its been a healthy debate, so as I said above, I'll be leaving it now. Until we get the verdict of course 😉

This is going to be a load of rubbish. Apparently, according to their statement, we've all misunderstood. So that's alright then. They can all come and 'Masisplain' it to us and we'll all accept that they can do what they like

One thing I do believe is that he is going to be a cracking partner to Lewis and the two of them will take the fight back to RBR.

Totally agree Russell is and will be a fantastic driver and will probably Challenge Verstappen in the future for world championships as will Norris, Sainz, Leclerc given equal equipment. What frustrates me Lewis as shown his world championship potential from day one in his first year he embarrassed the all mighty Fernando Alonso and the idiot as never got over that till this day and the pundits still go to great lengths how good he his well he got beat by a rookie in 2007 and people still question Lewis’s ability what a joke.
For me Russell will be a great asset to Mercedes next season he is for sure a better driver the Bottas and will only benefit the team to win the world championship for driver and manufacturer, will he challenge Lewis? yes for sure on occasions but over a season you have to say no. Lets just embrace what what we have seen in the last 15years for me the best Racing Driver off all time full stop. Lewis as definitely had more support for being a good loser than being a lucky winner in the last week.Lets hope he gets his 8th championship next year and then call’s it day, what more does he have to prove?.

Delighted for Lewis, in this instance thoroughly deserved as a sportsman who has achieved truly special feats .....unlike others who seem to get a gong for doing what they trained to do but hardly worthy of further recognition.

No idea why Daley Thompson was not knighted. 

They can take a 'Sir' away (Fred Goodwin) but that won't happen to Sir Lewis.

As I have said several times, my ire is with Masi not Max. But if you cannot see why people find that whole shit show wrong, then you are above special 

Elevate the discussion above the drivers and look at how the FIA/Race Director acted and explain how that was within the regs and spirit of fairness?

Your problem is you cannot see beyond Max, and are taking everything as being an attack on Max.

Answer me this, Max says he won it on the race track all season. So explain what he won at Spa? Another Masi cock up that gifted him the most important win and points. How can he say he has had no luck?  Delusional. And that is directed at Max.

Congratulations to Sir Lewis, to Mercedes for a record 8th consecutive constructors title and to Max Verstappen for a fantastic season and thoroughly well deserved drivers championship.

Anyone here impressed by Lewis’s sportsmanship should do likewise and congratulate all Dutch members and Max Verstappen supporters then move on to far more important concerns. The bitterness on show here brings shame to this once very respectful forum.

The majority of remarks are about how crap Masi and the stewards have been all season in applying  the rules in F1, even a large number of drivers have spoken out about it.

Yes there’s some comments about Max’ driving style and his attitude (whilst Dieter is talking about the “sporting code” maybe he would like to analyse Max walking away after landing his car on top of Lewis without checking that he was ok) but I only see banter between a few posters.

Yup. Finally we may see the FIA take some responsibility. I think if we get it then most, including me, will move on. Their inability to act quickly as not helped. I suspect @hedgerley that Mercedes and the FIA reached an agreement behind closed doors. FIA act/step up and Mercedes drop the action. Too coordinated to be a coincidence imvho.

And @jimichanga pray show us the bitterness?  I think every "upset" poster has made it clear their ire is not at Max but Masi.

Put the Blue Beret away as peacekeeping is not a role you are good at looking at your posts. 👍😁

If the FIA had said, we've ballsed up, I would be less worried about this 'review'. What worries me is that there FIA statement is super vague and seems to imply fans have misunderstood.

Now that Mercedes have dropped their appeal they have no position to hold the FIA to account, so it's likely this will be a quiet settlement behind the scenes and the FIA largely burying the mess they've made. They have a lot of history on doing this.

I'm not sure I have any faith left to give to this 'sport'

I think there is no doubt that the FIA and Mercedes have reached an agreed solution and Mercedes have said they welcome the FIA’s decision to hold an investigation and will hold them to account.

I’m optimistic that positive change for the better will come out of this, but we shall see.

I personally think that the Abu-Dhabi result should be declared null and void as the race result was manipulated. It doesn’t change the fact that Max will still be drivers champion and Mercedes constructors.

For the record, I don’t think anyone can claim that Max isn’t a deserved champion this year. He won the most races, he led the most laps, and I’m sure will become a multiple champion over the next 10 years.

Will the deal involve Masi going? When Charlie Whiting ruled, he had Herbie Blash with him. Both mates with Bernie. No-one argued with them for very obvious reasons.

Masi needs help. Either he is replaced with two coming in or Masi moves to No 2 with a heavyweight as Race Director. Kimi ideally but someone of very high authority.
