Insurance Premium Increase

Reading articles showing vast increases in annual premiums, especially Land Rover products, I've been waiting for my Mazda 6 renewal to see how much it will increase by.

This year, already renewed my the insurance on my wife's Kia Niro (large increase, so had to shop around) and my Esprit & Excel, small increase with FJ. Plus my daughter's first year's insurance.

Mine arrived this morning Direct Line, £780, up from £442 (as usual no change in circumstances) - so on to the meerkats and got it down to £470 with Flow - same company I put my wife's with.

Strangely, with just me (no claims, clean licence for 40+ years) - £590, add my wife (regular accidents & 3 points), down to £470. So have gone with them. DL don't get a second chance, will call them closer to the renewal to decline their kind offer.

Any horror stories with your non Lotus cars renewals?

Renewal quote for my GR Yaris came in today, gone up from £198 to £340 (no changes to risk or cover).

Quick look on comparison sites is bringing in quotes at £250 cheapest so not too bad I guess.

Well the two Lotus were much the same this year as last and indeed for the last several at around £100 each  ...but I must say I feared the worse for the other two given some of the horrors I've read about on the SpeakEV and FullFat forums.  The one that most lived up to the hype was the i3.  The renewal quote came in at £329 up from £215.   Over 50% uplift seemed a bit strong so got onto the Meerkats, Go Compare and Confused.  All started way higher - over £400 so renewed where I was for £329.  The Range Rover (SVAD) is slightly unusual in that I had an embarassing ding in Dec '21 so lost some noclaims and had to pay £736 last year up from something in the £400s.  This year the renewal came though at some huge four figure number but back on the comparison sites it was easy to get it down and eventually paid £679.  I'm guessing being geriatric but not yet doolally and living in the middle of nowhere has its advantages in this game.  All four cars for both me and F to drive were less than my Mum has to pay for her old Fiesta ... but she is 90 this year!

I was with Land Rover insurance for my Evoque - last year was around £500 the renewal this year was £1500. Needless to say I went elsewhere - Saga for around £600. The joys of being over 50!

I was in the Land River dealer last week (theft mitigation recall) and the guy told me that Land Rover were going to bring out their own insurance due to the problems of people insuring their cars particularly the large Range Rovers.

Her indoors has an Evoque insurance around £300 in the spring, previously with M&S but theirs went up so went elsewhere.

I hope you called your insurer on the i3. You can usually get a reduction from an initial renewal quote

Good advice Justin, but this time I didn't.  If I'm going to talk to a broker, its odds on they'll make me cross and I like to have somewhere else to go if I want to end the call.  Didn't feel I did this year so just paid up...

My Evora S was with direct line for £400 last year. They haven't even quoted to renew, best so far is Classicline at £675 for 1500 miles but with a £500 excess. What other specialists are worth checking with?

I started insuring my Evora with LV in 2019. Their quotes went down then up and in Oct 2022 they were asking silly money so I switched to Aviva. Last year I paid £460 (including extras). This year they quoted £477 but my circumstances have changed, I have retired and I also added the wife as a named driver, and I actually paid £400.

Shop around, don't ignore the bigger insurance companies, and sometimes adding a named driver can reduce your premiums.

It's a pain having to shop around, it took me five hours to insure my two cars, but it might save you a few bob.

Thats why I use confused.com saves all your details so you can bang it in and pick the cheapest each year.

It annoys me when others such as direct line say we are not on comparisons.

I tried and found out why...they were about £200 more expensive than everyone one else. That annoyed me as it took me about 30mins to enter all my details so they wasted my time!
