What made you happy today?

My Wife's going on about a Vantage they have for sale there.  It's the same money, but it's only got 2 seat and I can't fit in it.  She prefers it to the DB9, so another reason to get the DB9!

So your happy to listen to and please your mates of 30 years but not your wife?

Hmmm. just do it. I always wanted a DB9 but bought the Evora instead as I didn't need the back seats.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

You are still talking about this.... pull the trigger already.

Have you driven it already? If not...why not?!

The only thing someone I know was disappointed with was the gearbox on the db9...Sold it 6 weeks later as a result.  Not sure how to read that though as he rebuilds gearboxes for a living.

DB9 rear seats are something of a joke - I recently bought one (I've still have my Elise S - honest, so not an imposter here!) and even with the front passenger seat forward it would only be possible for a smallish child to be reasonably comfortable. My slim adult daughter tried to fit into the rear but it was impossible for her to get her legs anywhere comfortable.

Vantage vs DB9 - I drove an N430 Vantage (V8) and a V12 Vantage plus several DB9s before settling on the DB9 that I eventually bought. For what it is worth, I found the V8 to be quite noisy so dismissed it as my wife already tolerates journeys in the Elise S so I reckoned that inflicting another quite noisy car on her would not be fair. I found the V12 Vantage to be quieter even when using the performance enthusiastically - a waging of the tail in a straight line on a dry road in third for example - but decided against it as I didn't think I would hold a driving licence for long if I bought it.

If the FSH on the DB9 that you are looking at is through Aston Martin main dealers then great or if it is by recognised quality specialist garages then that should be OK - anything less than that and I would be very careful. All the research I did said to be very wary of cars with missed services or services by "back street" garages. I came very close to buying a low mileage nine year old car but then found that it had been stored for 3 years without service work or evidence of it being properly prepared for storage. But, if it all checks out then go for it - they are lovely cars though rather more GT than sports car.

I did a lot of looking for a DB9 before I bought the Evora. You absolutely MUST, as @hosscartwri says ONLY buy one that has a full main dealer or recognised and well trusted specialist (like Bamford Rose)  service history.  You buy at your own peril if you don't and it will make it harder to sell on when you decide to move on.

They're lovely cars. Yes, a GT more than a sportscar but they certainly can still hustle beautifully, and quickly, down a squiggly A road.

I was after a post 2007 facelift car. Preferred the seats than the originals and you got the much improved TechtronicII gearbox upgrades. For me the optional sports pack was essential (wheels, suspension....) and I still hanker after one now.  One day......

Please do post up the piccies and details when you get one. You'll get nothing but that :respect: from me as they're superb cars and not German plastic fantastic (do i smell burning ????)  trash!  :sofa:

Once nearly bought a DB6 superlegerra Vantage for £650. It had had an engine fire and the Brigade had bent the bonnet getting the fire out......otherwise perfect. Had nowhere to work on it.....always regretted not going ahead. Must have been back in the 1970s......

Go buy the thing!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Took the Esprit out for a pre Christmas drive up to Midhurst today in the winter sun. Lovely!

Could be the high point of my holidays. Unless there's a Turbo G car in my stocking I fear it's going to be a disappointing Christmas Day... :(

Done the exactly same thing, with my boy. For the record you can get 3 boxes of wine in the boot with a couple of bottle of champers, a crate of Old Speckled Hen in the foot well, a crate of Becks on the lads lap and 2no Christmas cards. Also had a flash (lights ahem) and a thumbs up from a chap in a Coxster to boot.

She is now in bed awaiting trip to GST in the New year. God I love that car.

Merry Chimble and a Happy New Year to you all.

Cruz control disengaged!

It's all over between me and BA. Well, apart from the bit where they pay me a full salary for attending 'career transition' (yeah, right) for a year.  I'm so glad that bullshit is behind me. ?

Planning some alterations to the Esprit..?

Nice bit of kit. I have my own woodworking workshop too and I wouldn't mind one of those instead of my B&Q special.

Not worth starting anything now...🍺
