Recommended Posts

Three very nice and iconic Esprits are coming up for sale on the online auction site, The Market. They seem to be from a private seller and being called the Esprit Limited collection. They seem to have high estimates. They have just been posted so more details and photos to follow.

Anyone on here ?

1978 JPS Esprit - #21

1981 Essex Esprit

1999 Sport 350

JPS #21 described as "original" and as "Turbo"?

That would certainly be one for the books.

Grimms Fairy Tales perhaps?

Rear tyres look non-spec too!

The title may be incorrect. The short description sounds like it may not have a turbo. I guess we will have to wait for the full description and photos

Essex 017 was owned by Paul Dewey and Nello’s friend on here, it sold recently needing recommissioning on eBay.

Don’t think this was a long list collection rather a set of nice cars put together as an investment.

Dave :)

I’ll be keeping a keen eye on the Sport 350. A few crawling out of the woodwork at the moment!

I must admit, I hope for the owners sake they do a much better job at ‘selling’ the car via the description and detail, because if you didn’t know your Lotus is certainly wouldn’t entice you as it stands right now (other than looking glorious - of course).

It looks like the Esprit Collection has been expanded to include a few more items. Now there is a smorgasbord of Esprits coming up for auction including a Sport 300 joining the 350

So is the JPS #21 as original as suggested ? A reference car ?

Essentially no. Had an engine bay fire and quite a few components replaced including rear window.

Yes the Dewey family will be disappointed to learn I think that its being sold again but I understand its a choice and was a probable investment. I had some terrific trips driving that car................ I've also passed on the link for interest to the cars original owner from new David Preston.

Yes it was. It had been rebuilt at Lotus after being involved in a big crash with a Vauxhall Calibre. I had it put back to yellow.

I remember the car for sale when it was green.  The crash was mentioned in the ad at the time and was sold at a discounted price because of it.  No mention of it here though.

Was the crash repair paid for privately and does not show up on the HPI check as above ?

Yes it was paid for privately.  Looks like the car would have been a Cat B with structural and chassis damage.

Yes, I had the rear spoiler sorted snd the correct side skirts.

There were things that Lotus did during its rebuild that were not correct and V8 parts had been used.

The car drove fantastic, but it will always have the scandal green in its past.

I would have another Sport 300 any day, but one with a perfect history.
