How many owners track their Evora's? I bet it's single figures as a percentage. 

The Emira will more likely be the same, hence the EVO review wasn't really justified. 

As with the Evora, yes is can go on track and for most drivers will be more car than they'll ever need but it won't see the other side of the pit wall very often I don't think.

Why?  If people who drive like that want to buy a Lotus and help keep the company in business so they can make the kinds of cars you and I like to drive, I say bring 'em on.

I've spent a bit of time going through the reviews over the last few days (as I need to decide whether to go ahead with my AMG FE order) both on YouTube and in the written press. 

The only one that seems to be critical is the Evo track review, the Henry Catchpole review in the magazine is very good (4 star, not quite as good to drive as a Cayman but looks amazing and build very well), the Car review against the Cayman and A110 is very complementary, and it comes across more in the written form than the YouTube video.  

Seems to be the same across the board, engine/gearbox a bit old hat (hope AMG can fix that), not quite as good as a Cayman above 8/10ths (important for Journalists and the driving gods on here, probably not for mere mortals like myself) and a bit heavy for a Lotus.

None of that really puts me off when looking as the junior supercar styling, the fact they have finally nailed an interior that I can live with as a daily driver and frankly watching just how much fun Harry Metcalf was having blasting around in the car on roads that he knows like the back of his hand.

Like most on here, I was hoping for a 5*, kicks the Caymans arse type of review but being realistic, given just how mature the Cayman platform is and how good Porsche are at making cars that was unlikely to happen. I know which one I'd rather have on my drive.

This is the first time that I have ordered a Lotus having previously owned BMWs, a Porsche, Mercedes and currently an F Type. As has already been said if the Emira was a stripped out track car I would not be buying it so Lotus has achieved its objective and widened its market . I do still have concerns however over build quality, reliability and ongoing support and servicing. I am due to take delivery in November so hope the car meets expectations. In July I have booked a session on the track at Lotus to see how it handles. The safe option would have been a Cayman but it just doesn’t have the wow factor that the Emira has.

On this forum, we fall into 4 camps, and since I joined, people have stayed in them.

 

1. Die hard Lotus fans who will knock the Emira and Lotus at every chance - backhanded compliments at best

2. Those who have no great opinion either way and looking for information and to perhaps get caught up in the buzz

3. Those who have had a Lotus and see both the greatness and failings of Lotus 2.0 and both support, and sometimes, attack Lotus 2.0

4. New to Lotus - they can do no wrong - what a fantastic achievement 'fanboys'.

 

Firmly in Camp 3.

Attack is a bit strong, but perhaps more accurate than I'd like to admit.

At the end of the day, as active as this forum is, TLF is just a tiny sample of those who have placed their deposits or who have an interest in the car.

The good news is that we all care, right?  Even if we differ on what matters.

To quote the much maligned Matt Prior from Autocar:

”the best weight for a Lotus is the one at which it sells”

A fair point but governments aren’t to blame buyers vote with their feet and there has been a stampede for the Emira!

Thought you might all appreciate some non journo feedback on the Emira. (Yes it’s potentially biased coming from a Lotus dealership employee…)
 

I was at Bell & Colville today speaking to Antonia. She was at Hethel last week driving the Emira round their track and thought very highly of it. She said it’s more responsive than the Evora so that’s a pretty good sign and the sort of thing I was wanting to know. 
 

she drove an IPS so couldn’t comment on the gear change. 
 

btw, she was great to deal with and very helpful and has a background in Caterham including racing them so well versed in enthusiast cars.

This! I used to have a Mini GP2 which was a fantastic thing round track but I never felt the compunction to put down people who bought a Countryman because such a ‘huge’ car was off brand.  I feel the same with the Emira.  It attracts different folk who want some Lotus DNA but without the compromise of previous Lotus.  That’s why the varied reviews worry me. It makes it too easy for folk to bring out the old trope of Lots of Trouble….. I really hope that Lotus grip the QC or lack of prep before they start handing over the keys to real people (not journos).

Happy to be in the tiny percentage. I preferred the Evora over the Exige as a track come road car.  Looking forward to seeing some Emiras on track.  Though they will be crap
