Emergency Alerts Real or Conspiracy?

Kimbers

Yeah I agree recent governments have been utter shitshows but I’m a naturally glass half full person and like to believe some good things can still happen.
To be honest, it’s conspiracy theorists who go against all the proven science just for the sake of it that really irritates. I’m all for seeing the positives until proven wrong by proper and genuine research.

Normal part of life in the States.  Having had to run away from tornadoes a couple of times, I can appreciate its value.  But you just know we're going to get alerts for 5mm of snow.  And living near Northwood I'd appreciate a nuclear alert, so I can climb on the roof and make sure I'm gone in the first wave.  Screw surviving that.

True, but NATO Allied Maritime Command is 2 miles away as the ICBM flies.  Game over, man.

That place already looks like a bomb dropped on it.

Conspiracies . . . FFS. What we should make time for is contemplating why people everywhere are consumed by paranoia in one form or another. Road to a better world isn't so hard to see.

Well I guess that very clearly would depend on the exact nature of the emergency. 🤷‍♂️

I’d still rather know about any impending doom that’s about to befall me. At least then I could try making an informed decision about what to do next. I don’t think I’d panic but instead try and think of a way round the problem. My wife would definitely panic though!🤦

You can't think your way around 150+ nuclear warheads on the end of ICBM's raining down on the UK. You'd have what, 10-15 minutes notice? Personally, I'd rather not know and just let it happen, whether I was working, shagging (unlikely as been married for 30 years), driving or just sitting on the bog having a great shit.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

Like I said, any action I’d take would depend entirely on the nature of the issue. Nukes, no I couldn’t do owt about but floods or fires, for example, yes maybe I could take suitable avoiding action.

Whatever the problem, I’d still want to know. I’m a fatalist by nature and if my demise is inevitable, so be it, but if there’s the remotest chance I can do something about it, then I’d grab it.

Nothing a few cable ties wouldn’t sort out, if there’s any left at local stockists.

I'll get around to it at some point.

Just to add a bit of real world context here, in Australia the black Saturday bushfires killed about 200 people. It is the reason we now have an alert system for bushfires.

For those who are familiar, bushfires are an evacuation situation until they reach a certain point, where it becomes safest to stay and defend your home (avoiding the initial heat front, obviously). So most of those 200 lives could have been saved.

Alert does not seem to have reached the SW (yet). Phone off but turned on later - no saved alerts and alerts are enabled.
