Is this a typo or are Elan +2 prices really reaching this high?

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lotus/seven/1973-lotus-elan-2-s130-coupe/8389940

It is fully understandable imo that they are asking this solid price for for this beautiful Lotus.........If someone wants this specific car he will pay this price......I would do too...

The last years several Lotus types slightly gained higher prices (of which this Elan+2 offer is a typical representation) whereas prices for (certain) Ferrari's and Porsche's etc, etc were climbing very rapidly.

Awaiting some possible (economic) recession prices for F'& P's etc. are clearly descending the last 3-6 months.

In some very light way also Lotus prices are affected, but generally over the years the Lotus trend is intact.

Probably the involvement of Geely wit a more secure future, will support the Lotus Trade Mark with this trend.

Any thoughts on what a cosmetically very tidy '78 Series 2 with sound mechanicals and plenty of service history would go for these days?

Asking for a friend

In the UK, good RHD S2's ask between £25,000 and £32,000. They have to be absolute mint at the higher end though.

I don't really think it's related to the Brexit, as it settles a bit everywhere if I am not wrong?

If business are holding off investment, and the housing market is stalling due to uncertainties in the marketplace, then what makes you think that the same stagnation in the UK classic car sales, and other luxuries are not equally effected?

Well apparently the investors are not that frightened:

(I certainly don't pretend being a specialist, though :D)

I don't think hobby investors are looking at £30,000 sports cars TBH.

The work that has gone into recommissioning the car is bonkers, engine rebuilt, body off chassis repaint etc.

The last owner purchased it from a Lotus main dealer via the Bring a trailer website back in 2017.....crazy good value for money today for such an original car. I believe the exterior is the original factory paint.

Plentry of businesses are still investing and growin. 2018 was a great year for inward investing in the UK. The housing market is just surely down to the fact that houses are just so stupidly over priced compared to salaries. I have kids at 24 and 21 and positively welcome the house price stagnation and hopefully significant price falls.

However, I don't think any of these things have an impact on Lotus car prices. I am not an expert though.

God doesn't want me, and the Devil isn't finished with me yet.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

I don't think so too for a few reasone:

For example the interest rate on Money deposits in a bank is near non-existing.

Then investing money in real estate is very unsure as prices are overpumped.

Then investing Money in playing the stock market game have been near loss most of 2018.

Next there seems to be an increasing number of mags and flutube movie makers, WHO take in interest in making a video or an article about the Lotus Esprit. So noticed by many people as viewers and/or readers.

And finally, more "famous" or just well known people have recently bought the Lotus Esprit in one ofrm or another, making a lot of people viewing it and increasing the interest in the marque and model.

I think prices are slowly creeping up. And some ar already overwhelmingly overpriced, such as the Sport300 in Germany (I think it was). But then Again, most if not all other sportscars from other brands have already skyrocketed beyond recognition. Even a lousy Ford Escord RS Turbo, which is in no way an interesting car (after trying one).

Kind regards,

Jacques

While I always like a red SE, personally I think the red detailing interrior is a bit over the top, but then again, each to his own, naturally, and people may surely not like my own example of the breed, but honestly I don't care about that.

And I would adjust the head light pods before advertising, as can be seen.

But more importlantly, price is exactly where I don't want it to be, because it may inflate other sellers into thinking theirs are worth a lot more than they actually are, thereby potentially preventing other prospective buyers to strike a deal. I think we are already well past the average 18 y.o. needing a Friday car for the Summer anyway, so no need to go beserk inflating the price to a moonraker level, to prevent the critters from thrashing the Esprits.

All destroyed by sothersby and what not. They don't belong there. Those institutions are meant for scaringly hysterical people who just don't care. Let them pay a gazillion for an old ford Escort 1,3 brazil 1983 with crome window surrounds. It was never a good car when new, and surely is no better today. Instead, the Esprits belong in the hands of good people who want to drive them and keep them above sea level. Well, except one.

Anyway, I am not selling, so it's easy to say. Who knows what I would demand for my own car, if that day came?...

Kind regards,

Jacques
