Top Gear - New Series

I actually liked the Peugeot piece.  :help: Whilst less specific to the carmaker it reminded me of a class of drivers that is all too common nowadays. I mean, when was the last time you had such a moron in front of you at a roundabout? I think it was yesterday.

Peugoet feature was a waste of time and two cars (and an unlucky red mr2 in the garden centre car park)

I thought the rest of the show was great, the lack of a race with the porsche, ferrari and mcclaren is probably them all in agreement not to slag each other off, at those sale prices losing a sale is a huge loss, the influence a race could have (that driver and production team dependant any of them could win) could give each of them bad press for there trophy cars, although you'd like to think they all attract there own type of buyer theres only so many people could buy them

I had a complete fool in a pug 208sw smash up the side of my trailer in Oxford on the way to pick up my esprit.

He then had the cheek to tell me I'd damaged his car - whilst I was stationary - and he was on some chevrons in the middle of the road.

Then he proceeded to say he's got my number from the van and speed of after vomiting a load of abuse at me.

Chuckling to myself - he made a real mess of the side of his car...... And his missus looked on fire at him......

On balance - it seemed a highly accurate account last night with that incident with the mr2.

I would have been very cross if he'd done it with my new motor on the back......... I did rub his paint off the side of the trailer......I bet he doesn't rub the dents he put on his so easily

The Peugeot-bashing (literally) was just rubbish on every level. An interesting point to be made about "dull" cars was utterly  lost amongst vapid, lazy, tired stereotyping  and deeply pointless antics that lacked their usual saving grace of being entertaining. Real barrel-scraping stuff.

I know people have their own experiences but I have never noticed Pug drivers to be noticeably bad, unlike some other marques I could mention...  (alright we have a 206 but that dates from before the alleged "dullness" ).

Anyway, what about the RCZ ? - maybe that is still dull to some but it kind of seems to indicate a real effort not to be.

RCZ-R now has 300hp and all for £30k (I can get a pre-reg for less than £25). 0-60 is sub 6 secs and 30-70 is 5.5secs. Autocar really like it and rate it.

It's not Dull.

I have put a 3008 against many cars in the past, I change my cars 3-4 times in a year and have had Golf GT, Volvo V40, Honda Civic, BMW 1 series, New A Class Merc and I always come back to a 3008 again. For doing 25k a year I can't find anything I would prefer to be in!

Anyway. Back top TG. Bring on the Lotus's please!

Peugeot bit was fun last week - My mother-in-law's Peugeot looks just like that and she could easily have doubled for JC or JM

It isn't meant to be a sensible motoring show, that was the old Top Gear which the BBC stopped making because nobody watched it. If it was as rubbish as many make out it wouldn't have been such a huge international commercial success. Clearly it appeals to a large audience. Please tell me you don't want Chris Goffey back !

If you don't like it don't watch it. There is plenty of drivel on TV I don't watch.

Tonight star in a reasonably priced car Gillian Anderson was good fun to watch. The Toyota bit was dreadfull and the Canadian adventure could have been loads better and longer ok I'm biased... Still no Lotus in news but a lot of VWs...

Didn't Frank Zappa write a song about yellow snow?

Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow

Dreamed I was an eskimo

Frozen wind began to blow

Under my boots and around my toes

The frost that bit the ground below

It was a hundred degrees below zero...

And my mama cried

And my mama cried

Nanook, a-no-no

Nanook, a-no-no

Don't be a naughty eskimo

Save your money, don't go to the show

Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh

Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh

Well I turned around and I said ho, ho

And the northern lights commenced to glow

And she said, with a tear in her eye

Watch out where the huskies go,

and don't you eat that yellow snow

Watch out where the huskies go,

and don't you eat that yellow snow

I got tons of yellow "dogsicles" all over my deck. Snow too high for the dog to venture off the deck and it freezes almost instanly lately. Massive deck cleaning come spring.   :no

Something strange has happened. Clarkson has had an altercation with one of the producers and has been suspended from the BBC. It's been confirmed that TG will not be filmed this week and that there'll be no show on Sunday night.

Anyone got any insider info?

BBC clicky.

My guess is he wasn't happy with the format of the show.  This is what he said on his Twitter page a few days ago about Sundays show.  It was very dull.

Jeremy Clarkson@JeremyClarkson - Mar 8

It's an old skool Top Gear tonight. Nobody falls over and no-one is fired by canon into a hospital. I'd watch something else frankly.

More info from the RT. 'Twas a punch and stuff!

Radio Times clicky

Reproduced below, just in case it gets edited.

The three remaining episodes of Top Gear series 22 have been pulled from the schedules after Jeremy Clarkson was accused of punching a producer.
The Top Gear host has been suspended from the BBC after allegedly aiming a punch at a male producer, in an incident last week.
The alleged assault was only reported to the corporation yesterday, and BBC executives took the decision to suspend Clarkson earlier today.
In a statement the corporation said that this Sunday’s edition of the motoring show had been pulled, but Radio Times understands that the further two remaining episodes of the series have also been postponed until the corporation has concluded its investigation into the events.
The penultimate episode of the series was due to air on March 22 and has been replaced by a documentary about the Caribbean featuring Simon Reeve, at 8pm, followed by a Louis Theroux documentary.
The BBC would not confirm the identity of the producer.
A statement from the corporation said: "Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation. No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."

However, the term producer is an umbrella term, with credits from last week's show listing the names Liz Campbell, Chenoa Finlayson-Pugh, Polly Holton and Nicholas Krupa in the production team with the producer credit going to Oisin Tymon and the series producer named as Alex Renton.

Sunday's show was set to feature Clarkson and fellow presenters Richard Hammond and James May getting to grips with classic cars including a Fiat 124 Spider, an MGB GT and a Peugeot 304 Cabriolet with ex-footballer and presenter Gary Lineker the “star in a reasonably priced car”.

The news will come as a huge blow to Clarkson who admitted, with some degree of understatement, that he has recently had a "difficult” last few months which culminated in him and the show's team being hounded out of Argentina after protestors took violent exception to the numberplate of the car he was driving.

He was also put on what he claimed was a final warning from the BBC after a racism row when he was allegedly caught on camera mumbling the n-word while reciting the nursery rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny Moe during filming of the BBC2 programme.

Other controversies include protests from mental health charities after he branded people who throw themselves under trains as "selfish".

And he was forced to apologise for joking on The One Show that striking workers should be shot.

This has prompted BBC director of television Danny Cohen to launch an investigation into the show which is ongoing and which some commentators believe has diluted some of the content. Speaking to RadioTimes.com earlier this year, co-presenter Richard Hammond promised that the current run would be controversy-free.

RadioTimes.com has attempted to contact Mr Clarkson for a comment.

Roll on the move to channel 5

That'll give us more episodes and series - and a commercial break to allow a visit to the fridge for more beer........

To be replaced by whom? And TG itself? It's a popular show enjoyed by millions. Dull, information based car shows are awful and not particularly well received by the public. 5th Gear being demoted to some obscure specialist channel is a testament to that.

It will be a sad day when divisive characters such as the one portrayed by Clarkson are removed from our screens.
