It was a high speed test bed for the “Defence Research Agency”.

the lower radome only had about 6 inches of ground clearance! The pilots had to be very gentle when it came to touchdown.

🤣 to be fair @Bravo73, most, if not all experimental aircraft look ugly. She was a high speed test bed for the Eurofighter radar system.

When I worked at Rolls Royce near Watford, one of the senior systems analysts was an ex Lightening pilot.  He brought in a few films to show us at lunchtimes. He drove his maxi 1750hl with after burners on (well that's what he said..)

Awesome seeing them take off and such a vertical rate of climb.

I read that although it looked spectacular, they couldn’t keep up a vertical climb for long. Instead, the fastest way to their service ceiling was at something like a 30 degree angle.

Margate Exotics.

Just reading that British Airways offered Concorde to NATO for supersonic interception trials (I guess like a Soviet bomber). From an assortment of F14, F15, F16, Starfighters and Mirages, only the Lightning managed to overtake it from behind. Concorde was travelling at Mach 2.2 at 57,000ft. Mind you the Lightning probably ran out of fuel before getting back to base!

This led me to a link to this. Never heard of it before. Like something out of Thunderbirds.

Yeah, both were good at making the ground explode if I recall right.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

The TU-144 might have had a little help from the French.

British Fart to Florida, Nude to New York, Dunce to Denmark, Numpty to Newfoundland.  And Shitfaced Silly Sod to Sweden.
