Peoples’ reaction to your Evora

@Cdm2018 go back in 5 years, and with Lotus now firmly targeting Porsche drivers and behaving like Porsche in terms of product placement (£3k fountain pen for f@ck sake) then maybe the outcome will be different.

Sometimes a while between compliments and then 3 in a row:

1 - stopped in a pay and display and there was a 20 ish y/o guy hanging around as I left the car park. He seemed to be loitering so I hung around myself out of sight to witness him walk over and take a few photos of the car.

2 - on return to said car park, a chap in a BMW complimented the car and told me he always wanted an Elise.  He correctly identified that it wasn’t an Elise though and so I helped him out and told him what it was.  “Hmm” he said. “Not heard of that one before”.

3 - slow moving traffic a few hours later with my window down and a transit pulls up to my right with his passenger window open.  Two kids looking down at me and the dad who’s driving shouts out - “the kids love the sound of your car”. I knew what he really meant though…. Anyway, I gave him a thumbs up, a blip on the loud pedal to 5,000rpm and a “yeah” that Tom Jones would have been proud of - then gently pulled away.

Driving around a corner, bunch of lads, around 11 or 12 I guess (rubbish with ages) shout out, "love your car mate, really cool"

I call back a thanks guys. They shoot back "give it a rev!" So I did, to much cheering and thumbs up.

Just been surveying a caravan motor home camp site ready for our first night next weekend in the new campervan 

got talking with a guy who had near same campervan as we getting , chatting about suspension changes he recommend to make , I mentioned I had a lotus Evora he replied campervan will never match the lotus but as a former test driver for lotus the VW transporter with upgraded suspension would be a decent ride to make the drive more pleasurable

I've just returned home from a short drive into town for a walk around the harbour. I got into my car and a kid on a bike gestured me with a thumbs up. Nice, so I returned in kind only then for him to turn to his mate saying "it's only a Lotus"

I'm finding first weekend aside, the Evora didn't get much attention at all. Very few turned heads, certainly less than our 1971 mini got and it turned fewer heads than my Sport 160 Elise (though the noise might have some bearing on that).

The first weekend though, was cringe. Two streets away a middle age man (I suspect he owns the M2 in the same place), stopped, crouched and gave a double thumbs up. Next day, in the high street area a similarly aged man stopped in his tracks, jaw agape and couldn't get his phone out to film fast enough (this is an area with plenty of Lambis, McLarens, Ferraris and the odd Maserati).

Later that same day I had a young guy in a C3 flash the headlights enthusiastically from behind, cut from the outside lane into an off ramp at the last second, tailgate, over take me and another car on a blind crest and then do laps of the next roundabout, first out the window, waiting for me to catch up. I wasn't playing so he rejoined the motorway at the next opportunity.

Little different world here in Canada as sightings become even more rare.  I have been blown away by the attention my Evora 400 receives, I was not prepared for it at all.  Especially not after owning a couple of Porsches.  I thought my dull grey Lotus was going to blend in nicely and be my summer sleeper.  LOL!  Not even close.  

I DD it and absolutely every week I have at least one conversation at a light.  People stopped far back from lights etc so they can check it out.  And the kids LOL. Lost track of the photos and videos being taken of my car while I pass by the teenage kids.  Neighbours.  At the car wash.  Getting petrol.  Never ends.  Also shocking is everyone is genuinely respectful, curious and very friendly.  Attracts a much friendlier crowd than my Porsches did.  Many people know it has a Camry engine, which also amazes me.  Some guess Emira, most do not know what it is since I debadged the rear model decal.  But everyone is gob smacked over how it looks..and how it sounds.  People madly in love, which does not surprise me as that is why I bought it!  Such an amazing car but just wish it was a bit more sleeper in nature!  C'est la vie.

Interesting. I find it's pretty constant. The cleaner it is the more I get, but living in an area rammed with expensive metal I can guarantee attention if I'm in the Evora. Even to the point it gets a bit risky as folks driving on the other side gawping sometimes drift across the dividing line.

Maybe it's a colour difference? White is rather bright.

Attending an Armistice parade this morning, and already having impressed myself that the No1 dress uniform I had made to measure 45+ years ago still fits me perfectly, I decided to complete the aviator look and take the Evora.

On the way there, I was stopped at a junction when a group of mixed Cadets crossed over in front. One of them, a female member of the khaki lot, eyed up the car then shouted out "Ooooh, nice!" along with blowing me a kiss. I don't know if it was the elbow in her ribs from the Air Cadet alongside her, or whether she'd actually then clocked my attire, but there followed a swift "Sorry sir" accompanied by a very uncertain 'should I salute or should I not' hand gesture as her face went redder than the traffic light and she scurried off into the side turning to avoid any further embarrassment. That followed a short time later when we made eye contact as the parade was forming-up and the poor lass had to excuse herself from the company. I did go over and alleviate her suffering so she could rejoin her fellow cadets by the way.

Then on the way home, I stopped for some motion lotion and pulled in behind a modified (lots of carbon add-ons) Audi RS3 being filled by a lad in his late 20s/early 30s. He looked round as I arrived and pulled a pursed-lips expression. As I got out, he followed up his facial contortions with "I thought I had a nice car. You win".

I was sitting in the supermarket car park, replying to a couple of family texts as it happens, before setting off for home with the weekly shop.

I became aware of a shadow alongside the car and turned to see a couple of lads standing there. "Do you mind, please, if I take some pictures of your car?" asks one of them. "Not at all, go right ahead" I reply.

After taking several shots from various angles, the lad came back to the window and enquired if I'd just arrived or was I about to leave. When I confirmed the latter, his response was to high-5 me then say that he was going to video the start-up and drive off "to remind the old man of what a real car sounds like" as he grinned and rolled his eyes towards the Tesla parked a few spaces away,  .

I do a physio sports exercise class early in the morning and I took the Evora as I go to coffee with with some other retired car guys,

As I got out of the car, An elderly lady with very dark glasses and her guide dog stopped and looked(?) at the car for some time. one of the oddest experiences I have had with the car

We were queuing and moving slowly today on a dual carriageway up to a small accident at a roundabout, when my wife said that a young lad in a Scirocco in the next lane had given her the thumbs up and a nod of approval. 

He then decided to take a photo with his phone and drove straight into the back of the car in front of him.

We couldn't look and felt so bad for him.

I was parked in the NSW regional town of Boorowa. Taking down the screen shades to see guy oggling over the car. most impressed having not seen an EVORA he then proceeded to compare it to a Europa he'd driven years ago.

Then filling up in Parkes. a guy at the next bowser said I saw  new ones all covered in plastic, where I asked, Sydney on the back of a truck, I recognised yours by the wheel badges.

Had a good reaction today. I live just along from a football pitch where various groups of kids train and play games all through the week. 
2 boys around 10/11 at a guess rang the door bell just to tell me I had a “cool car!”

If I hadn’t have been so busy i’d have let them have a sit in

Some years ago I was hanging around in the garage, about to take the car out, when my neighbour’s son (probably ten at the time) came all the way into the garage (unexpectedly and unannounced) to show my car to his mates. They spent a good minute looking at it and walking around, to my astonishment and amusement.

I do automotive photography, these are just funny impromptu snaps while I was out photographing the car and people came up to say hello and look at it.
