I watched this. The end was result was stunning but £28.5k for the car at the beginning (and it needed a roof?) seemed really high ($37.5k). Is that the going rate in the UK?

if so, does anyone want to buy a running federal S1 with a perfectly good roof 🤣

The quality of a piece of trim work by Steve (or Nick R.I.P.) is not the same as they left the factory. Theirs is stitch perfect, there will be perfectly even pull on material etc, so the cost is understandable when factoring in the time and effort. I don't know whether that was £16k incl material but suspect it was despite the voice-over saying that Drew had it made. The interior trim (which we know isn't chrome but that's what voice-over said) may also have been part of that cost and those kits of trim were very expensive as they had to be re-manufactured.

This series appeared on Discovery plus yesterday and enjoyed watching episode 1 with the Esprit. It is entertainment after all  

I wondered for a moment if Lotus/Mr Walker was going to buy it for the Heritage collection when they had it at Hethel for its post restoration shake down but they said it sold at an online auction, the (supposed) buyer did turn up to collect it on the show. 

Good to see Scott Walker on the show, he is certainly getting some TV / YT exposure currently

I thought I was recording this series but it turns out I wasn't and have missed the Esprit !! 🙄

Will have to watch the YouTube recording.

Was made aware of the episode yesterday when my mate who had stored the car for a while at his engineering works phoned me and asked what the reg plate of my old orange S1 was. Lo and behold it was STX 596 S.

I owned the car from 2012 to 2017 having bought it from a chap on here who bought it from the chap who started the "restoration", as detailed in this old thread - FULL S1 RESORATION FINALLY BEGINS......

I never did anything with the car other than fantasise about the restoration and move it from Wyatt Engineering to my own workshop. I did make a number of enquiries and some will be in other threads on TLF. This included being quoted £15K by Steve Fulcher for the tartan interior.

When I finally admitted defeat on the idea of restoring it myself I sold it to a friend of the chap who I bought it from for £9.5 or £10K (can't remember what we finally agreed on), having bought it for £6K 👍

I have to say, seeing the completed car does make me feel rather green with envy ... but equally satisfied that it wasn't my money laid out for what I understand was a relatively small return.

Mind you, I would have kept it and used it if I had completed the project .. assuming I hadn't bankrupt myself in the process 😲

I owned the car from about 1985 to 1993 it was my daily driver.

The attached picture is from about 1986 with the car parked on Cippenham Village green in Slough.

I did the first rebuild on the engine and when it was fully run in, I managed to accelerate it to 138 mph as indicated on the speedometer.

Thanks to everyone for posting on this forum regarding 1976 Lotus Esprit S1 (STX596S) as I thought I would never see the car again, you have made an old man very happy.
