PPF/ Ceramic coating before collection

How many are considering having PPF and or ceramic coating done prior to collection?

I’m thinking paint correction, PPF to at least the front areas and ceramic coated of entire car. My collection would be Rybrook Birmingham, not sure if they use anyone or whether I’d have to arrange myself.

Anyone recommend a tried and tested place for this in the Midlands?

I had ceramic treatment on the entirety of my Exige a couple of years ago and it has been brilliant. Will definitely be doing the same with the Emira.

I took mine to Bell & Colvill who sent it off to I don't know who. Not the Midlands though (probably).

I'm planning on PPF.  As Lotus are intending to offer a delivery option I may get it delivered straight to my PPF installer rather than the dealer or home.  Most dealers will have a local firm they use and I expect Rybrook will.

Same here. In fact, already half-booked in for 'sometime in June'

Will go for full PPF and ceramic on body and wheels/windows.

I'll do a video on it which should help others out with the concept.

I had this company ceramic coat my car in Northamptonshire, came out stunning and my emira will be going here. Price was less than a grand too and the facility was very nice, some nice car porn on site to see which the owner was happy to show

How much PPF will the factory already have fitted though?

My dealer mentioned this will be an option and you can choose how far you want it applied. I`m guessing if you don`t choose it, none!

Not sure about Lotus, but factory PPF doesn’t tend to be as good as a specialist and there is always paint correction required before applying on a new car, factory paint finish is never perfect.

Remember the Emira is being painted by robots using an electrostatic paint application technique favoured by many larger OEM's, rather than being hand painted. The paint should be exceptional from new.

Folk take their new Porsche, Ferrari, Pagani, BMW etc... to be paint detailed from new.

That’s because most manufacturers churn their cars out Justin, and the final prep-finish standards are horrendous……the worst offenders aren’t the manufacturers but the dealers who wash & polish them….🤦🏻‍♂️
If you want a new car to look the way you expect it to look then it’s always a good idea to send to a detailer to finish the paintwork properly and then PPF where required or ceramic coat.

Factory paint even from the big marques is never exceptional and they've used robots for years. It would be fair to say it would be "leading" and stand up to scrutiny with all quality competitors!

It's a car, not a work of art, it is to be used and enjoyed - immaculate paintwork on-going is a chore to me and spoils the fun. Others disagree, that is fine but detailing is not for me. My pleasure derives from driving, not washing and polishing. Stone chips are a badge of honour 😃

I love the scars on my 42,000 mile 340R, owned from new. No ceramic, no PPF.

I can understand that and that is how I have always been although I opted for ceramic on the Abarth.

I just want this time to be different so I worry less about driving it hard and making it easier to clean - which is definitely a weakness of mine.

 

Getting quotes now.  To me it is about a great job. I don't care about the distance to travel and Lotus will send it there anyway so I only need to retrieve it and what a great drive that will be!

To be fair there’s not a lot of bodywork on a 340R so you’ve definitely picked the right Lotus for you!😉……they’re like more like motorbikes with 4 wheels👍😎

Spoke to Rybrook, they use Elite Detailing in Solihull which is very close to the dealership. Had a quick chat with them and they estimate around £4K for full PPF.

After many years working in a Dürr paintshop, I have seen some exceptionally bad paint, I hope that's not the case here 😉 Yes, mine will be PPF'd.

Will probably be taking mine to Auto Wax Works at Bicester Heritage, for either PPF or PPS.  I've budgeted around £5k for it.

Call me a tight arse, but if I do go this route I think I’ll just do the front bumper, bonnet, fronts wings, mirrors ppf and then full ceramic coat. 
That will still be £2-2.5k, which is a fair chunk of cash, got to draw the line somewhere!

It is better than nothing and a full PPF might be overkill.

In my head my total budget was £80 so I can just get in - ish.

I did a partial PPF on my Evora and it’s been fine.  Picked up one stone chip on the unprotected roof, which could be fixed with a simple smart repair. The front, lower sides and mirror covers are most susceptible to road rash.

Definitely PPF similar to example, have done same before, just under £1k today. Although should consider adding whole bonnet area and will have it Ceramic coated.

I did similar to that price and coverage on my Evora, although mine didn’t end up looking like a Porsche.

Can’t see me ever spending £5k on paintwork protection. You’ll never get that back.
