I have, at last, moved into a house that has space for a double garage to be built. Before embarking on the design / planning I am looking for some inspiration. Over to you guys!

Having decided, f**k it I'm getting an Esprit, the next thing was where shall I put it? There was a carport over the narrow 8ft wide driveway.....that just won't do.

So commence carport conversion, filled in and insulated the side, tri fold doors on the back, 8ft up and over door on the front, new insulated roof, shit where's the bike lift gonna go, I know I'll sink it in the floor, if I position it just right it might lift the Esprit.

Right, radiator to keep us cosy, and Bob's yer uncle Fanny's yer aunt, here it is.

Petite and bijou, but warm and dry as a bone.

My actual situation........

 

Worked a full year from 2014-2015 (800 + 400 hrs.) to restore my 1975 Honda GoldWing GL1000 K1 as shown in a 7 x 10 ft space in front of the Esprit.......

 

I have to use an electric winch to pull my 660 lbs Honda backwards, sitting on the bike, against a sloped entrance to position it next to the Esprit.....

 

This was the final result after restoration.........

 

After the restoration it was elected in the USA at "NGWClub.com" (over 14.000 members) as  --- "Bike of the Year 2016" --- amongst 12 nominees with an overwhelming 29% of the votes .........

Mine, pre recession... the contents have changed somewhat since then.

The building is a bit of an eyesaw..... I'd love to drop it and rebuild with an oak frame........

Although not to naasaa's standard; a couple of years ago I cleared out my garage to make it more usable. My only reservation now is that I should have chosen more robust flooring where the car sits (and possibly got rid of the pool table)....

Here's my home built effort.

Timber framed and clad over a dwarf brick wall. Felt shingle roof over 18mm OSB. 7ft high door so we can get the current Mrs H's ML in there and auto opener so I don't have to get wet when I come home in the Esprit 

Straightforward and relatively quick to build, just needed a bit of planning out and a mate or two to help put up the roof trusses and panels. Otherwise all my own work.

One thing I overlooked when building my garage was an overhead crane, would have made life so much easier,  hindsight is a wonderful thing!!

Steve,  I think for how many times folks would use one of those , a decent A frame that you could strip down would be a better investment imo,  I have used acro building/scaff bars on the top of pre fab garage before in the past and just hooked up a manual block and tackle.     Arse was twitching while the lump was hovering ove the car but it did the job. !

Cor,  you get the balls of steel award in my eyes      Does not look electric or hydrolic from the pictures, is it just racking ?  Would love to see some more pictures of this as kind of like the idea myself if not just to store the bodyshells over the chassis

Hello, Dan, thanks for the compliment but it is not that complicated.

I made a ramp with a hinge mounted to the wall. With a small cable hoist i pull the car op on the ramp.

with a pallet lifter i lift the other side of the ramp and put two collumn's underneath, job done.

4 years into ownership im only just making the most out of a tight garage, 6.5m long with extra width at the back for racking, would love a double garage one day but had two kids since i got my esprit thus time is valuable and money vanishes on kids gubbins
